Tal Shochat

Born: 1974, Israel

Graduate of Hamidrasha Art College, Beit Berl, Kalmaniya. Tal won the 2005 Israeli Ministry of Education Prize for a Young Artist. Her photographic works are in the collections of museums in England, Israel and the United States. Shochat's photographs create their own worlds cut off from sky and sun and walled off from the outside. Whether fruit trees of Israel or nudes or mothers and daughters, her works force us to focus on the meaning of the figure in a deliberately artificial setting and tease out all it meanings both real and physical as well as mythical and poetical/metaphorical. It's almost as if the subjects have taken the photos. Her focus is on the cosmic and not the social.
