Born: 1969, Jerusalem
Sigalit is considered by many to be Israel's most important contemporary artist. She studied at Bezalel in Jerusalem and at Cooper Union in New York. She has shown at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem and at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. She has been Israel's representative to the Venice Biennale. Sigalit has won numerous awards in Israel for young artists. Her works are enormously powerful and reflect a concern with big themes: the horrors of war, poverty, homelessness, extremes of climate and identity. She makes visceral tortured sculptures, amazingly beautiful and sometimes painful videos, and is an accomplished printmaker. She has already shown at major galleries and museums in Europe and the United States.
