The Michael Hittleman Gallery - Fine Israeli Art was established in
1976. The purpose was to exhibit a broad range of Israeli fine art ranging
from the early pioneers to the leading avant-garde artists. The gallery
exhibits the popular as well as the critically acclaimed. As part of
an educational mission the gallery maintains a library of books, catalogues,
articles and auction records of Israeli art. Michael Hittleman, the gallery's
owner/director, lectures and writes on Israeli art history.
For more than 30 years, the gallery has presented shows of Israeli
art at temples, synagogues, Jewish Centers, Jewish Museums and for Israeli
and Jewish organizations as a way of raising consciousness about Israeli
art and as a fundraising activity.
The gallery and its collectors have lent works for numerous museum
exhibitions and many private collections of Israeli art have been started
or nurtured by the gallery.
The Michael Hittleman Gallery was located for 34 years in an office suite at Beverly Blvd. and Robertson. In late 2010 we moved the gallery to 8403 West 3rd Street (at Orlando), a storefront location near New Stone Age and Free Hand craft galleries and Magnolia Bakery.
Our new location offers a more dynamic view of the art, a skylight for natural lighting and parking in the rear as well as convenient street level access amid a welter of lovely shops and restaurants.
Michael Hittleman is a graduate of Fairfax High School, UCLA and CSUN.
He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Carolyn.
Gallery Hours: Tuesday - Saturday 11-5; Sunday by appointment.
